5 myths about Health insurance

  1. Health Insurance policies pay only in case of hospitalization

There are different types of plans, others choose Inpatient care this means that they only pay if the person is hospitalized and one that includes Outpatient care. Choosing to have both will cover you for Inpatient and Outpatient services. Although, some insurance policies also give cover for emergency room cases even if you don’t get admitted you will be covered.

  1. You don’t need to declare your pre-existing conditions.

Not declaring your pre-existing conditions can be bad for your insurance. Signing an insurance policy has a written contract and will therefore void the contract if your statements are incorrect or are considered false. This can result to insurance fraud as well.

  1. I don’t need health insurance, I take care of myself.

Taking care of yourself is good but we cannot prevent accidents from happening. There are things we cant control and having health insurance gives us peace of mind. Health Insurance is important especially if you’re not living in your home country. When you’re back home its easy to move around and if things are unexpected you can still manage things because you’re in your home ground. But living overseas is different, health insurance is not something you want to risk.

  1. I have group health cover so I don’t need to buy a separate policy.

Group covers are good but be sure to read up on the policy before sacrificing health insurance for yourself. Some group insurance plans have defined polices that will not cover you in some cases and you have to be able to read the fine print.

  1. The higher the premium the better the cover.

I’m not saying this is not true at all, of course the higher you pay the higher the cover and that would make it better. But also check the insurance companies as sometimes even big companies have lousy management. International insurance companies have branches in different countries but sometimes what can be great in one country can be disastrous in another. Always check what company you’re signing with. There are forums online now, information is available everywhere, double check everything and be sure.

There are so many health insurance companies in Thailand but there are only a few people trust one of the best in the game is Pacific Cross. You can compare different insurance companies in the website Mister Prakan.
